What's new about the New Zealand elections so far?

Nearly a week after the announcement of the results of New Zealand's parliamentary elections, it seems that it will now start talks on forming a new government this week. The results showed that the ruling National Party, which formed the previous government, had 58 seats, and Labour Alliance with Greens won 52 seats and New Zealand first party won 9 seats.

To win the majority that could form the new government, 61 seats must be obtained, which means that New Zealand's first party decision to choose which side will be the most key decision to form a government. There are still votes that have not yet been calculated (the "special votes"), which may change the results by not much, but any change will certainly be important. The final results are due to be announced on October 7.

Winston Peters, leader of New Zealand's First Party, said he would start talks this week and expected to end all talks and make his decision by Oct. 12.
