Members of the European Union agreed on Monday to postpone Britain's withdrawal from the bloc until January 31, leaving the door open to the possibility of any new developments before that date.

Council President Donald Tusk said on Twitter that the "27 EU countries agreed that they would agree to Britain's request to extend the deadline for Brexit until 31 January 2020," noting that the withdrawal may be in the event of an agreement before that date.
