Amazon raises minimum wage starting next month

Amazon will raise its minimum wage to $ 15 an hour for its employees in the United States starting next month as it faces criticism of wage differentials by lawmakers and labor unions, the company said today.

The move comes at a time when the "Fight for 15" movement led by the union to get a minimum wage of $ 15, gains in cities across the country.

Amazon's average wage was $ 28,446 last year and became the second company with a market value of $ 1 trillion last month. The company is headed by Jeff Bezos, the world's richest man, with a $ 150 billion fortune.

The retail sales firm Target raised its minimum wage last year to $ 11 and promised to raise it to $ 15 by the end of 2020, while Wal-Mart, the world's largest retailer, raised the minimum wage to $ 11 per hour earlier this year. .

Amazon said it would increase the minimum wage for all full-time, part-time, temporary and seasonal workers. The company added that the minimum wage would benefit more than 250,000 U.S. employees as well as more than 100,000 seasonal employees to be assigned to Amazon across the country during the holiday.
