The head of Japan's steel industry federation said that the US new import tariffs has not yet hit the Asian steel market, but the industry is closely watching any future impact, and Japan's steel manufacturers are trying to obtain fee exemptions.
The United States last month set a 25 percent tariff on steel imports for reasons of national security but provided a temporary exemption until May 1 to the European Union and some other countries.
