China's state media criticized President Donald Trump's policies in an unusual personal attack and sought to reassure investors about China's economy as growth worries weighed on its financial markets.

Chinese media have repeatedly rebuked the United States and the Trump administration as the trade conflict escalated, but it has largely refrained from targeting Trump in particular. He was described by a Chinese newspaper as playing in a deceptive drama of blackmail and intimidation.

The International Monetary Fund warned of escalating trade disputes following US customs measures against its trading partners, which could threaten to derail the global economic recovery. The United States and China applied $34 billion in customs duties in July, and the United States is expected to implement additional $ 16 billion in tariffs on Chinese goods soon.

China's Ministry of Finance unveiled a new set of tariffs on Friday for about 5,000 US goods worth $60 billion, in response to Trump's proposal for a 25 percent tariff on Chinese imports worth $ 200 billion.
