Eurozone trade surplus expanded in March

The trade balance in the eurozone posted a surplus of 21.2 billion euros in March, exceeding the market forecast of 20.7 billion. But the previous reading was revised down from 21.0 to 20.9 billion euros.

Preliminary estimates of euro zone exports of goods to the world totaled 199.0 billion euros, down 2.9 percent on yearly basis, while imports amounted to 173 billion euros, down 2.5 percent on yearly basis.

The intra-euro trade fell to 170.5 billion in March, down by 0.6 percent from the same period last year. From January to March, exports rose by 2.5% to 555.7 billion euros, while imports rose by 1.4% to 506.3 billion euros.
