Italian PM confirms Italy's commitment to euro

2 Oct 2018 02:08 PM

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said today that Italy is fully committed to the euro and that any comments on the single currency are individual views that have nothing to do with government policies.

Conte spoke in the wake of remarks by an anti-European lawmaker in the ruling party League that Italy would benefit more economically if it was outside the euro zone.

Conte added that the euro is their currency, which is unpronounceable and that any opinion other than that is an individual opinion. Conte played down tensions with the European Union over Italy's big spending budget, saying that Rome had begun a dialogue with EU institutions in a calm and participatory manner, and expressed confidence that the government would show the accuracy of its budget plans.
