Merkel allies attack Trump

Merkel's allies attacked US President Donald Trump after pulling out of support the G-7 joint statement, saying that the remaining G-7 countries should stay together to guide global politics. Some described his withdrawing from the statement as an affront.

Trump canceled his support for the G-7 joint statement after it was approved earlier, while the UK and German governments announced their compliance with the commitments made at the G-7 summit.

The deputy leader of Merkel’s bloc said that despite the incomprehensible reaction of the US president and another heavy blow to Western society by his behavior following the G-7 summit, Germany remains a close partner and ally of the United States.
