UK retail sales jumped in May for a second month in a row, beating market expectations far outstripping expectations as a royal wedding and warm weather helped shoppers put a winter slump further behind them, data showed on Thursday
The pound raised significantly after the release of the data as signs of economic recovery from the sharp slowdown suffered earlier this year which put the Bank of England off an interest rate hike.
According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, retail sales rose 1.3% month-on-month, after falling by 1.8%. Sales rose by 0.9% in the three months to May from 0.2% in the previous months to April.
