UK Treasury appoints new member for BoE’s MPC

Professor Jonathan Haskell has been appointed to the nine-member Monetary Policy Committee of the Bank of England, which its major role is determining interest rates in UK, the Treasury Department said today.

The economics professor at Imperial College Business School will replace Ian McCafferty as an external member for a three-year term beginning Sept. 1. He won the naming process after shortlisted of applicants from 27 to 5 included him and four women.

Philip Hammond, the Treasury Secretary, expressed confidence in Haskell's experience in productivity and innovation that would increase the committee’s understanding of the British economy.
