Uncertainty casts a shadow over European stocks

European stocks remained stuck at their lowest level in five months today as uncertainty about global trade kept investors away from riskier sectors. The STOXX 600 shed its early gains and fell by 0.1%, while the German DAX fell by 0.3%.

The European index was on course to end the week with a loss of 2.4%, the worst weekly performance since the end of March as risk appetite eased due to fears of a growing US-China trade conflict as well as weakness in emerging markets.

Shares in sectors such as the financial sector, energy and mines were shunned as market tensions continued after the deadline for the public comment period on the proposed U.S. tariffs on additional $ 200 billion on Chinese imports.
