U.S. imposes new tariffs on China on August 23

The United States has announced it will begin charging 25 percent more on Chinese imports of $ 16 billion in two weeks, further exacerbating the trade war between the world's two largest economies. The US Trade Representative said the fees would be charged from August 23.

It will be the second time the United States has imposed tariffs on Chinese goods in the past month, despite complaints from US companies that such moves will ultimately raise business costs and consumer prices.

The United States imposed a 25 percent charge on Chinese goods worth $ 34 billion on July 6, and China responded quickly by imposing the same value on US imports.

Total fees could soon increase, with the Office of the Trade Representative reviewing a 10 percent tariff on Chinese imports worth of $ 200 billion, and could rise to 25 percent and could take effect on Sept. 6. Trump suggests imposing customs duties on all Chinese imports, which reached more than $ 500 billion last year.
