US labor market slows in July

The labor market in the United States added 157 thousand jobs last July, below expectations of 191 thousand and the previous reading at 213 thousand. Private payrolls rose 170,000 from a previous reading of 202,000 and subsequently revised to 234,000.

The manufacturing sector was able to add 37 thousand during the specified period, while the participation rate in the sector stabilized at 62.9%. Turning to unemployment, its stability is also near its lowest level of 3.9%. Average per capita income per hour rose by 0.3% on a monthly basis and by 2.7% year on year. The average number of hours worked per week was 34.5 hours.
