Turkey received an exemption from about 25% of the US-imposed oil sanctions on Iran, equivalent to about 3 million tonnes of oil a year, Turkish Energy Minister Fatih Dunmes said on Friday.

In an interview with NTV television, Dunmes said the Toprash refinery was looking for alternatives to avoid any market problems. He said the 25% rate was approximate and that Ankara had not yet received the exact figure.

He stressed that his country has a contract to buy natural gas from Iran for five to six years and added that Ankara will continue to buy gas from Iran.
