European companies can be protected from US sanctions on Iran

British Secretary of State for Near East Affairs Alistair Burt said today that European companies could be protected from new US sanctions on Iran after US President Donald Trump withdrew from an international agreement aimed at denying Tehran the ability to manufacture nuclear weapons.

With the re-imposition of sanctions today, the new EU law to protect European companies will also be in place to try to mitigate what European officials say is illegal access beyond the United State borders.

"Companies were afraid to take legal action against them in response to US sanctions, these companies could be protected by European legislation and it is a trade decision for companies if they continue to operate in Iran," Burt said.

On the other hand, Trump says anyone trading with Iran will not trade with U.S, describing the new sanctions on Iran as the cruelest sanctions ever.
