US unemployment benefits fall by 5 thousand last week

Unemployment benefits fell in the United States during the week ending October 13 by 5,000 from 215,000 to 210,000. The 4-week moving average was 211,750, an increase of 2000 from the average rate of the previous week.

The insured unemployment rate was seasonally adjusted at 1.2% for the week ending October 6th, unchanged from the previous non-adjusted rate.

The previous figure for seasonally adjusted unemployment during the week ending October 6th was 1.640, down 13,000 from the revised level the previous week. This is the lowest level of insured unemployment since 4 August 1973 when it was 1.6333 thousand.
