Australian job growth exceeds market expectations

  • The Australian economy succeeded in adding 114,700 jobs in July, far in excess of the expected 30,000 The previous reading was revised higher, from 210,000 to 228,400.
  • Unemployment grew from 7.4% to 7.5%, mainly due to the increase in labour market participation from 64.1% to 64.7%.
  • The quantity of full-time jobs increased by 252,000, while the number of part-time jobs fell by 23,600, encouraging optimism about sector growth in the coming period after it was one of the sectors most affected by the coronavirus pandemic and resulting lockdown.
